Placeholders

Every placeholder the Farm Sim Game bot fills in, grouped by feature: welcome messages, game server alerts, auto responder, image-only channels, timed messages and YouTube.

On this page

Placeholders are words in {curly brackets} that the bot swaps for real values when it posts a message. {server} becomes a name, {user} becomes a mention of the new member, and so on. Each feature only understands its own set, so a placeholder that works in welcome messages may show up as plain text somewhere else. Use this page to check what each feature supports.

How placeholders work#

  • Type them exactly as shown, brackets included. They're all lowercase.
  • A placeholder a feature doesn't support stays in the message as plain text, so a typo is easy to spot.
  • Mentions inside an embed show up, but they never send a notification. To ping someone, use a plain text message.
  • {server} means your Discord server's name everywhere except in game server messages, where it's your game server's name.

Mention a role, user or channel by ID#

Most features also understand three ID tags:

PlaceholderBecomesExample
{role:ROLE_ID}A mention of that role{role:123456789012345678} → @Farmers
{user:USER_ID}A mention of that user{user:123456789012345678} → @Sam
{channel:CHANNEL_ID}A link to that channel{channel:123456789012345678} → #rules

To get an ID, turn on Developer Mode in Discord (User Settings → Advanced), then right-click the role, user or channel and choose Copy ID. On the Welcome messages page, Insert a role mention… and Insert a channel link… add these tags for you.

Welcome messages#

Used on the Welcome messages page: the Welcome Message, your Greetings, and everything in a Components layout (text boxes, button labels, private replies, role menu text and image URLs).

PlaceholderBecomesExample
{user}A mention of the new member@Alex
{username}Their usernamealex_92
{displayname}Their display name in your serverAlex
{userid}Their user ID123456789012345678
{greeting}One of your Greetings, picked at random🚜 Alex just pulled into the farm!
{server}Your Discord server's nameGreen Acres FS25
{members}Your member count (bots included)1234
{membernumber}Your member count as an ordinal1234th
{joined}When they joined, as a live relative timejust now
{created}When their Discord account was created, as a relative time3 years ago
{rules}A link to your Rules Channel (empty if none is set)#rules
{everyone}@everyone@everyone
{avatar}A link to their avatar imagehttps://cdn.discordapp.com/…
{servericon}A link to your server icon (empty if you have none)https://cdn.discordapp.com/…
{role:ROLE_ID} {user:USER_ID} {channel:CHANNEL_ID}Role, user and channel mentions@Farmers
  • {greeting} is filled in first, so your greeting lines can use the other placeholders, like {displayname}.
  • {membernumber} already ends in "st", "nd", "rd" or "th". Write "our {membernumber} member", not "member #{membernumber}".
  • In a button's Send a private reply, the member placeholders describe the person who clicked the button, not the person who joined.
  • With no message template saved, the bot posts Welcome {user} to {server}!.

Leave and invite messages#

The invite tracking join, leave, announcement and log messages use a fixed format. They have no placeholders.

Game server messages#

Used in the Message Format boxes on your game server's edit page (Game servers → pencil button). Here {server} is your game server's name.

Premium

Custom message formats need Bronze or higher. Without it, the bot posts its default text and your Message Format isn't used. See Premium.
