YouTube alerts
Post a message in your Discord server when a YouTube channel uploads a new video, with your own message format, role pings and the video link.
On this page
YouTube alerts tell your community when a new video goes up. Add a YouTube channel (yours, your server's or a favorite Farming Simulator creator's), pick the Discord channel to post in, and the bot announces each new upload with its title and link. You write the message once and it's used for every alert on your server.
Before you start#
- You need the YouTube channel's channel ID. It starts with
UCand is 24 characters long. See Find the channel ID. - How many YouTube channels you can follow depends on your supporter tier (see Limits).
- If a channel is missing from the list, run
/setupin Discord, choose Update Channels and Roles for Website, then reload the page.
Set it up#
It's under Automation & alerts in the sidebar.
In YouTube Notifications, type your message in YouTube Messages Format and click Save Message Template. Leave it empty to use the default.
In YouTube Upload Notifications, choose the Discord channel to post in under Channels, then click Create new YouTube Notification.
It appears in the list below. Click its pencil button to open Edit YouTube alert.
Give it a Title you'll recognise, and paste the channel ID (or a youtube.com/channel/UC… link) into YouTube Channel URL.
Click Save YouTube Notification. The bot starts checking that channel.
To follow several YouTube channels, create one alert for each. To stop an alert, click its trash button in the list and confirm.
Settings explained#
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Messages Format | The message posted for every new video, on every alert in your server. Supports placeholders. | **{author}** uploaded a new YouTube video! then **{title}**! then {url}, each on its own line |
| Channels | The Discord channel the alert posts in. Chosen when you create the alert. | — |
| Title | A name for the alert so you can tell them apart in the list. Members don't see it. | Empty |
| YouTube Channel URL | The YouTube channel to watch. Paste the channel ID, or a link like https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC…. | Empty |
The grey example text inside YouTube Messages Format is only a hint. It isn't saved, so if the box is empty the bot uses the default above.
Find the channel ID#
The bot only accepts a real channel ID, not a handle like @SomeFarmer or a /c/ or /user/ link.
To copy it:
- Open the YouTube channel.
- Click ...more in the description under the channel's header image.
- Scroll to the bottom, click Share channel, then Copy channel ID.
- Paste it into YouTube Channel URL.
If the ID isn't right you'll see: "Invalid YouTube Channel ID. It should start with "UC" and be 24 characters long (e.g. from youtube.com/channel/UC...)."
How uploads are detected#
- The bot checks each YouTube channel's public video feed every 5 minutes, so an alert can take a few minutes to appear.
- Each check looks at the channel's newest video. If that video hasn't been posted in your alert channel yet, the bot posts it.
- Each video is only announced once per Discord channel.
- The first check after you save usually posts the channel's latest video, even if it's not brand new, because it hasn't been announced yet.
Placeholders#
| Placeholder | Becomes |
|---|---|
{everyone} | @everyone |
{author} | The YouTube channel's name |
{title} | The video's title |
{url} | The video's link. Keep it in your message: it's what makes Discord show the video preview. |
{role:ROLE_ID} | A mention of that role |
{user:USER_ID} | A mention of that user |
To get a role or user ID, turn on Developer Mode in Discord (User Settings > Advanced), right-click the role or user and choose Copy ID. More in the placeholder reference.
Examples#
Ping a YouTube role#
🎬 {role:ROLE_ID} **{author}** just dropped a new video!
**{title}**
{url}🎬 @YouTube Pings FarmSimGame just dropped a new video!
Building the Perfect Dairy Farm | FS25
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=…
Discord shows the video preview under the message.
Simple and quiet#
New upload from {author}: {title}
{url}Rather than {everyone}, create a role like "YouTube Pings", let members pick it with
reaction roles, and use {role:ROLE_ID} in your message.
Limits#
YouTube alerts work on every tier. Higher supporter tiers can follow more YouTube channels:
| Tier | YouTube channels |
|---|---|
| Free | 5 |
| Bronze | 10 |
| Silver | 15 |
| Gold | 25 |
| Platinum and Diamond | Unlimited |
When you reach your limit, the create form is hidden. See Premium or the supporter plans.
Troubleshooting#
A new video wasn't announced#
- Wait at least 5 minutes. The bot checks every 5 minutes.
- Open the alert and check YouTube Channel URL holds the channel ID that starts with
UC. - Make sure you picked a Discord channel when you created the alert. If you left Channels on Disabled - Select Channel to Enable, delete the alert and create it again with a channel.
- Look for YouTube Notifications in Bot Error Logs on your dashboard and give the bot Send Messages in that channel.
- If the creator posted two videos between checks, only the newest one is announced.
There's no video preview#
Keep {url} in YouTube Messages Format. Discord builds the preview from the link.
Symbols show up as codes like &#
The website encodes &, <, > and " when it saves YouTube Messages Format. Write "and"
instead of &, and use {role:ROLE_ID} for mentions instead of typing <@&…>. Video titles
aren't affected.
