Send messages as the bot (/echo, /say)
Use /echo to post a plain message as the bot in any channel, or /say to post your text as an embed in your server's embed color.
On this page
Sometimes a message should come from the bot rather than from you: an announcement, a server
restart notice or a quick rules reminder. Two slash commands do this. /echo posts a plain message
in the channel you choose, and /say posts your text as an embed in the channel you're in. Both
are quick, one-off posts. For a message you'll keep editing, use the
embed builder instead.
Before you start#
- Both commands are for Administrators only. Discord hides them from everyone else, and they can't be given to other roles in Command roles.
/sayuses your server's Bot Embed Color from Bot settings.

Command history entry for /echo.
Use /echo#

Use /say#

Examples#
Restart notice with /echo#
/echo message: 🚜 **Server restart in 10 minutes!** Save your game and park your vehicles. channel: #announcementsWhat members see in #announcements:
🚜 Server restart in 10 minutes! Save your game and park your vehicles.
Quick reminder with /say#
/say content: 🌾 Harvest event tonight at 8 PM Central. Bring a combine!Slash command options can't hold line breaks, so a long message stays one paragraph. For headings, fields or images, use the embed builder.
Troubleshooting#
I can't see /echo or /say#
Both need Administrator. Discord only shows them to members with that permission.
"Error with echo."#
The bot couldn't post the message. Check it can see the channel you picked and has Send Messages there.
The bot says it's missing permissions#
If the bot replies that it's missing Send Messages, it can't send messages in the channel where you ran the command. Give it Send Messages there, or run the command in another channel.
Mentions pinged people#
/echo posts exactly what you type. If your message mentions a role, @everyone or a member, they
get notified the same as if you'd posted it. Mentions inside a /say embed show up but don't notify anyone.
