Bot nickname and embed color
Give the Farm Sim Game bot its own nickname in your server and pick the color of its embeds on the Bot settings page, plus how and when the nickname is applied.
On this page
Make the bot feel like part of your community. Bot Name sets the bot's nickname in your server, so members see your name for it in the member list and on its messages. Bot Embed Color sets the colored bar down the side of the bot's embeds. Both are on the Bot settings page and only affect the server you're managing.
Before you start#
- The nickname only changes the bot's name in your server. To change its avatar and username too, see Custom bot.
- In a server with an active custom bot, Bot Name isn't applied to the main bot.
Set it up#
It's under Bot in the sidebar.
Type the nickname you want, up to 32 characters. Leave it empty to use the bot's normal name.
Click the color box and choose a color.
Click Update Bot Settings. You'll see "You Have Successfully Updated Bot Settings!"
The Command Roles cards further down the same page are covered in Command roles.
Settings explained#
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Bot Name | The bot's nickname in your server. Up to 32 characters; anything longer is cut off when you save. Empty means no nickname. | Empty |
| Bot Embed Color | The color of the bar down the side of the bot's embeds in your server, for example on /help, /setup replies and the bot's first-use tips. | The bot's standard color |
How the nickname is applied#
The bot doesn't rename itself the moment you save. Once a minute it checks the Bot Name saved for each server:
- A name is saved and the bot's nickname is different: the bot sets its nickname to that name. This also means that if someone renames the bot by hand in Discord, the bot changes it back within about a minute.
- The name is cleared: the bot removes the nickname it set, so it shows its normal name again.
- The name already matches: nothing happens.
The bot only removes a nickname it set itself since it last started. If the nickname stays after you clear Bot Name, remove it in Discord: right-click the bot → Change Nickname.
If the bot can't rename itself, it notes the problem in Bot Error Logs on your dashboard home under Bot Custom Name Update ("Unable to change the bot nickname on this server.") and tries the same name again after an hour.
Examples#
| Bot Name | What members see |
|---|---|
Hay Day Farms Bot | Hay Day Farms Bot in the member list and on every bot message |
🚜 Farm Hand | 🚜 Farm Hand |
| (empty) | The bot's normal name |
/help with a green embed color and the nickname "Farm Hand". The nickname changes the name shown on
the message; text inside an embed that uses the bot's Discord username, like the /help header, keeps
the username:
Troubleshooting#
The bot's nickname didn't change#
- Wait a minute. The nickname is applied on the bot's next check, not instantly.
- Give the bot Change Nickname in Server Settings → Roles. Check Bot Error Logs on the dashboard home for Bot Custom Name Update.
- After a failed rename, the bot waits an hour before trying the same name again. Saving a different name makes it try again at its next check.
- If your server uses a custom bot, Bot Name doesn't apply. Name the custom bot in the Discord Developer Portal instead.
"Bot Settings were not changed!"#
Nothing was different from what's already saved. Change the name or color, then click Update Bot Settings again.
Some messages still use another color#
Bot Embed Color applies to the bot's embeds in your server. Plain text messages have no color bar at all.
