ModBarn is where Farm Sim Game players find and download community mods. To upload your own mods, you apply on the website and pass a short multiple-choice test about modding. Pass it and the Modder tools open straight away: no waiting for someone to approve you.
Before you start#
- Sign in with Discord. The application is at Modder › Apply, and you need to be signed in to see it.
- Read the guidelines. You'll agree to the ModBarn Modding Guidelines when you apply, and some test questions are about them.
- Only share your own work. You may upload only mods you made, or mods you have written permission to share.
- Have time for the test. The timer starts when you press Start the test, and it keeps running if you leave the page.
If you have the Verified Modder role on the ModBarn Discord server, you don't need the test. Open Modder and your account is approved automatically.
Apply and take the test#
Go to /Modder/Apply. The page shows how many questions the test has, how long you have and the pass mark. Staff can change these, so always check the page.
Fill in the short form:
- Your modding experience: what you've made, how long you've been modding and which tools you use (at least 20 characters).
- Links to your work (optional): your ModHub author page, GitHub, YouTube, Discord and so on.
- Games you mod for: FS25, FS22, or FS22 and FS25.
- Tick the box to agree to the guidelines.
You get a set of multiple-choice questions picked at random. Each question shows its topic (packaging, modDesc.xml, textures, testing, scripting or the ModBarn rules). Pick one answer per question.
The timer at the top shows the time left and turns red in the last two minutes. When it reaches zero, the test sends itself with the answers you've picked.
You see your score straight away.
How the test is marked#
- Each question has one right answer. Unanswered questions count as wrong.
- Your score is the percentage of questions you got right. Reach the pass mark shown on the page to pass.
- If you don't pass, the result lists the question numbers you missed (not the right answers), so you know what to brush up on.
If you don't pass#
You can take the test again after a waiting period. The page tells you the exact date and time you can try again. A test that runs out of time counts as a try too, so the same wait applies.
While you wait, read the ModBarn Modding Guidelines and GIANTS' own modding documentation. You get a new set of questions next time.
What approval unlocks#
Once you pass (or staff approve you), Modder Tools opens. The Overview shows your account and anything that needs your attention, and the menu on the left (Menu on a phone) has these pages:
| Page | What you do there |
|---|---|
| My Mods | Create mods, upload files and updates, add screenshots and publish them. See Uploading mods and updates. |
| My Teams | Create a modding team (one new team per 24 hours) and manage it. Every mod belongs to a team. |
| Invites | Make invite links for the teams you lead, so your co-authors can join. |
| ModHub Claims | Link your GIANTS ModHub author name to your team (team leaders only). |
| Tickets | Ask ModBarn staff for help. |
| Modder Guidelines | The ModBarn Modding Guidelines. |
| Help | Where everything is, and modding resources. |
Players who favorite your mods are told when you publish an update.
Every mod you upload is still virus-scanned. There's no staff testing: a mod goes public when you press Publish, so test it yourself first. Staff look into mods players report.
Claim your ModHub mods#
Already publish on GIANTS ModHub? Claim your ModHub author name and your ModHub mods show under your team on Farm Sim Game. Staff check every claim before linking it.
Only a team leader can send a claim. If you don't lead a team yet, open Modder › My Teams and press New team.
- Team: the team the mods should show under.
- ModHub author name: exactly as it shows on your ModHub mods.
- How can we confirm it's you?: at least 20 characters. For example, a link to your website or social profile that mentions your FSG or Discord name, or a mod description that links here.
Your claim shows under Your claims as Pending. When staff decide, it changes to Approved or Denied (with a staff note if they left one), and you get a website notification.
A claim is refused straight away if:
- no ModHub mods by that author name are on Farm Sim Game (check the spelling against the mod page),
- that author is already linked to a modding team (open a ticket if you think that's wrong),
- another claim for the same author is already waiting for review.
Troubleshooting#
It says applications are closed#
Staff have switched applications off for now. Keep an eye on the ModBarn Discord for when they open again.
It says my modding account is blocked#
Staff have blocked your account, so you can't use the Modder tools or apply again. The page shows the reason if staff gave one. If you think it's a mistake, contact us through Support.
It says my account is under review#
Uploads that our scanner flagged as unsafe put an account under review, and all mods connected to it are hidden while staff look into it. This can take some time. See Uploading mods and updates.
I closed the page during the test#
Your test is still open, and the timer keeps running. Open Modder › Apply again to carry on. If the time ran out while you were away, the test is over and the waiting period starts.
I lost my Modder access#
Staff can take Modder access away. You can apply again once the waiting period is over.
