Something not working? Find the symptom below. Most problems come down to a missing permission, a role that's too low in the list, or a setting that wasn't saved, and the bot usually tells you which.
Open your dashboard home and scroll to Bot Error Logs. It lists the 20 most recent problems the bot had in your server, with the Channel, the Location (which feature) and the Info (what went wrong), like "Missing Permissions: Send Messages". See Dashboard stats and error log for the usual fixes.
The bot doesn't respond#
Look for it in the member list. If it's gone, add it again.
/pingIf the bot replies "Pong!" with a Ping card, it's online and the problem is with one channel or feature.
If it works elsewhere, the first channel is blocking it. Give the bot View Channel and Send Messages there. See Channel overrides.
Ask in the FSG Discord. The bot may be restarting.
Using a custom bot? Check the Bot Status line on the Custom bot page, and see The bot is online but doesn't respond. A custom bot only works in the server it was set up for. Anywhere else it replies "This bot can only be used in the Discord server it was setup with via the Farm Sim Game website."
Slash commands are missing#
- Discord hides commands from members without a matching permission.
/setup,/echo,/sayand/botinfoonly show for Administrator./warn,/muteand their apps need Timeout Members,/kickneeds Kick Members,/banneeds Ban Members and/pruneneeds Manage Messages. The full list is in Bot permissions. - A server admin changed who sees it. Check Server Settings → Integrations → Farm Sim Game.
- It's an app, not a slash command. Warn User, Mute User and User Info are in the right-click menu: right-click a member or message → Apps.
- Discord hasn't caught up. Restart Discord. A brand-new custom bot's commands can take up to an hour to appear.
"You do not have the permission to use that command!"#
The command is role-gated, and the member isn't an Administrator and has none of the roles assigned to it. Until you assign roles, most commands work for Administrators only.
Fix it on Bot settings → Command Roles, or with /setup → Command Roles: add the member's role
to the command. The right-click apps use the roles of warn, mute and userinfo. See
Command roles.
Public commands never show this: /bump, /bumps, /game ..., /help, /ping and /playtime.
"Bot is missing … permissions" or "You are missing … permissions"#
These appear in the channel and delete themselves after 10 seconds.
| Message | Fix |
|---|---|
| "Bot is missing permission permissions, bot needs them to use this command." | Give the bot's role that permission, or allow it in the channel. /setup and /botinfo need the bot to have Administrator. |
| "You are missing permission permissions, you need them to use this command." | The member needs that permission in this channel. Every command needs View Channel and Send Messages. |
| "Bot is missing Administrator permissions, bot needs them to use this command." | You invited the bot with Manage Server only. Give its role Administrator, or re-invite it from My Communities. See First setup. |
Channels or roles are missing on the dashboard#
The dashboard lists the channels and roles the bot last copied to the website. If one is missing, or every page shows Finish connecting this server first.:
Type /setup, choose Update Channels and Roles for Website and press Enter.
The bot replies with how many channels and roles it updated.
Don't save anything while the yellow warning is showing, or channel and role fields could save empty.
On game server pages (Game servers → pencil button), channels only appear when they're inside a category. Move the channel into a category, sync again and reload. See First setup with /setup.
My game server shows offline#
- Check the Link XML. It can change or expire. If the edit page shows We can't reach your server's Link XML., copy it again under Server Urls. See Find your Link XML.
- Use a public address.
localhost,192.168.x.xand0.0.0.0can't be reached from the internet. - Set Web API Interval [sec] to 60 on your dedicated server's settings page.
- Make sure the server and its web interface are running.
- Has it been offline a long time? Online servers are checked every 60 seconds. Offline servers are rechecked less and less often, and after 48 hours offline the bot stops checking. Once the server is back up, open its edit page and click Save Server Settings so it's checked again.
- Over your game server limit? Servers over your tier's Game Server Limit show as Disabled. See Game server limit.
More: My server shows offline.
Game server alerts aren't posting#
- Pick a channel and save. Each alert needs its channel picked and Save Server Settings clicked.
- Wait for a change. Online, offline, join and leave alerts only post when something changes. If the server was already offline when you set it up, nothing posts until it comes back.
- Check the server is online. The bot only sees players while it can read your Link XML (see above).
- Check permissions. The bot needs View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links. Bot Error Logs shows entries like Dedi Server Online Message or Dedi Server Offline Message when it can't post.
Feature guides: Online and offline alerts, Player alerts, Live displays and Player tracking.
A role isn't being given#
This covers New Member Roles, reaction roles, welcome role buttons and menus, Invite Levelup Roles, playtime roles, App Approved Roles and mute roles.
- The bot's role is too low. Drag it above the roles it gives in Server Settings → Roles. Discord doesn't let a bot give a role at or above its own highest role. See Role hierarchy.
- The bot is missing Manage Roles. Bot Error Logs shows "Unable to manage roles in server." or "Unable to manage roles for server.".
- The role was deleted. Pick a new one on the feature's page.
- Something else is needed first. Invite level-up roles need an Invite Announcements Channel. Playtime roles need the player linked to Discord and Silver or higher.
Feature guides: Welcome messages, Reaction roles, Invite tracking, Playtime roles and Applications.
Messages aren't posting#
For welcome messages, logs, timed messages, YouTube alerts, auto responses and the rest:
- Check the feature is on. A channel is picked (not Disabled - Select Channel to Enable) and you clicked the page's save button. Some pages have two save buttons, like Update Bot Settings and Save Message Template on Welcome messages.
- Look at Bot Error Logs. "Unable to send messages in server channel." means the bot can't post there. Give it View Channel and Send Messages, plus Embed Links for embeds and Attach Files for images. Check the channel's own overrides too.
- Wait for the trigger. Welcome messages wait for the next join, timed messages for their time (US Central), YouTube alerts for the next check (every 5 minutes).
- Test with a normal account. Message filters and image-only channels skip members with Ban Members, and the bot ignores other bots.
Feature guides: Welcome messages, Timed messages, YouTube alerts, Auto responder, Warn system and Ticket system.
Premium features are greyed out#
- Game server pages show Disabled - This is a premium feature. in channel lists, or "With premium enabled this feature can be more customizable." above message settings.
- Dashboard pages marked Premium in the sidebar show what the feature does instead of its settings.
Premium belongs to a supporter's account and is put on one community at a time. To turn it on, click
Make Server Premium on the community card at the top of the dashboard sidebar, or run /setup →
Make Server Premium. Some features need a higher tier than others: Gold for the power manager and
custom bot, Silver for farm stats and playtime roles. See
Premium.
If you just subscribed and don't see Make Server Premium, reload the page. See I don't see Make Server Premium.
I can't open the dashboard#
- You need to be the server's owner, or have Administrator or Manage Server there.
- "You do not have an active community selected." Pick your server on My Communities first.
- "You do not have Admin permissions for that discord server." You lost the permission. Ask the owner, then choose the server again.
- Your server isn't on My Communities? Log out and log back in with Discord so the website reads your server list again.
